Heart Pine is a highly sought after wood that is often reclaimed from older sources as a result of its scarcity. It has a gorgeous brown-orange complexion with soft yellows mixed in as well. It has a tight and vertical grain, and is slightly harder than Red Oak. Heart Pine has a rich historical background, serving as a prominent material for construction in the United States during the Industrial Revolution. Our Heat Pine come in Antique Heart Pine (Reclaimed), Wide Plank Pine, Site Finished, Oil Prefinished, Handscraped, Distressed, Engineered and Solid. Heart Pine flooring is also available in long lengths, up to 16′.
Applications:
Heart Pine Hardwood Flooring, Furniture, joists and paneling for homes and factories, as well as timbers for bridges, warehouses, and railroad cars. It was utilized in Victorian hotels and palaces. Please note, unfinished Heart Pine flooring is sold in open, strapped bundles and not sold in boxes. Prefinished solid Heart Pine flooing and prefinished engineered Heart Pine flooring are sold in boxes. Heart Pine flooring must be purchased in full bundles or boxes.

Color:
Heart Pine’s heartwood is yellow after cutting and turns deep pinkish tan to warm reddish brown within weeks due to high resin content. Heart Pine’s sapwood remains yellow, with occasional blue-black sap stain.
Photosensitivity:
Heart Pine will amber to a darker yellow-tan color over time.
Luster:
Raw Heart Pine lumber has a low natural luster.
Grain:
Heart Pine is dense, with high figuring. Plainsawn Heart Pine is swirled while rift or quarter-sawn heart pine is primarily pinstriped. Heart Pine with curly or burl grain is rare.
Texture:
Heart Pine lumber has a medium texture. Heart Pine hardwood flooring can be finished to provide a choice of flooring surface ranging from smooth to wirebrushed.
Drying Characteristics:
Heart Pine is not difficult or time-consuming to dry properly. It is best to acclimate engineered Heart Pine flooring for 1 week and solid Heart Pine flooring for 2 weeks prior to installation.
Working Characteristics:
Heart Pine flooring is considered good to work with. Sawing: Good, Nailing: Good, Sanding: Use course paper for 1st sanding, may clog paper. Finishing: Accepts surface and penetrating finishes, some stains tend to blotch. It is important to keep the relative humidity levels in the home between 35% and 50% before, during, and after installing Heart Pine hardwood floors.
